Feeling Like An Outkast

I believe this is the most underrated Outkast song, which should have received more radio play during the CMC days. Enjoy.

The best group in the Bay Area. They ripped it tonight at Urban Paradise.

I am not 15 nor am I invincible. Damn me and my parkour ways.

And now introducing…

No Gentle Men Allowed is my interpretation on the human desire of wanting to get closer to someone we are constantly craving. I pursued this concept with a long take approach, which represents a point-of-view journey of one man going into one woman’s thoughts.

This creative process started in November of 2011 after being inspired to breathe life into one of my favorite Corinne Bailey Rae songs - Closer. Going into my first video project, my main focus was gathering a handful of my own personal inspirations dating as far back as 2003 and unite them all on the same floor, a small dream I never thought would come true. A few of these women I even managed to pull out of dance retirement while some I had never worked with as a director. To help enhance the required mood of this piece, I requested that every single dancer come to rehearsal with their own personal “target” in mind, someone that they would perform to in their head as a means of wanting to get closer to them. I wanted to keep things simple while at the same time, challenge myself somehow  by taking on a new human emotion that I have never tackled as an artist. I also knew I wanted to portray my inspirations as classy, sensual and alluring women.

I hope you enjoy this special video as much as we all enjoyed creating it together. It was made with a lot of love! A big thank you to my entire cast and production team for this humbling and memorable learning experience I will always cherish. Ladies - you are all amazing on AND off the dance floor. Thanks for taking this journey and moving with me.

Cheers, Philip

Velvety Goodness

I had a Rock the School Bells Meeting today in San Bruno. I texted Nate, “where’s the meeting today?” He responded, “…Never Too Latte Cafe…” That’s a witty name for a Coffee Shop I thought to myself.

The point of this blog though is this lovely liquid concoction. Never Too Latte has a special drink called a Red Velvet Mocha. Does it taste like a Red Velvet Cake? No. It’s more of a Mocha with a Red Velvet tinge.

It’s pretty good and the Never Too Latte staff was very friendly. They even let us sample some of their baked goodies.

Random Tip: If you use brown sugar while baking cookies, your cookies will come out chewy. You’re welcome.

WWW dot dot dot
After some of the internet being blacked out today, I thought of all the things that would disappear from the world wide web if PIPA or SOPA was ever passed.
1. Dance Routines that literally leave your jaw on the floor.
2. My Little Pony Videos that have been edited with Wu-Tang lyrics.
3. All the up and coming singers and musicians who cover other people’s music. I would even miss the bad ones.
4. Replays of Boxing/UFC Pay-Per-Views.
5. Friend’s post of that one song that you haven’t heard in such a long time, which brings back such good memories.
6. Star Wars Fans’ Videos.
7. Amazing pictures that are re-posted that incite emotion.
8. Introducing that one song/band that could change someone’s life.
9. Your cute little kid getting down to some current pop song.

10. Replaying that wonderful throw by Alex Smith and catch by Vernon Davis.
Supposedly SOPA was tabled today and will be brought up again next month and PIPA will be brought to the forefront next week. Let’s hope these items keep getting shut down.
The music industry wants to get back to the days when BSB and Nsync sold so many units that they didn’t know what to do with the money. Through the current state of the internet, the independent music scene actually has a better chance of surviving and somehow being heard. The movie industry wants to go back to the Movie Theaters being the only place to watch their movies, but it’s so much easier and cheaper to sit at home and stream it off your Netflix or even off YouTube.
It really isn’t about “piracy”. This is what happened to napster amplified to the Google power (pun intended). If SOPA or PIPA ever becomes law, you can say good bye to any of the blog and social media sites that we all use.

Skyward Bound
(Flight back from the UK to the Bay)

We are bound by the limitations we set upon ourselves. I’m too young. I’m too old. I’m too inexperienced. I’m too busy. I’m too…full of excuses.

Every year, I tell myself I’ll start writing again, but that yearly New Year’s Resolution fades into the monotony of the nine to five and fantasy basketball. Hopefully this is the year I fill tumblr with my random musings.

2012 is the year that I transform the sky into a stepping stone.
